Here are four side chairs commissioned for Elvanfoot Church in the early 20th century Circa 1906. These came from a local museum having been bequeathed in 1986. As these chairs did not come directly from the local area as now required by the museum, we had the opportunity to aquire them. What is interesting about these chairs are two are templates (prototypes) for the other two. You will have to look closely to spot the difference. The difference between the two pairs are firstly; timber the prototypes are carved in a fruitwood and lighter in weight, the other two are solid oak. Secondly; there is no carving to the legs or four spindles to the back of the chairs in the prototypes. Thirdly; no carving to the underside of the top rails of the prototypes either. Other than that they are identical.
Condition; These chairs currently have water staining to to seats, and a little water staining to some of the backs. This can be cleaned and removed by us if necessary for an additional charge. However, we prefer to offer pieces in origial condition and feel this only adds to the character and history of these chairs.
