A great early 20th century rare and important vintage whiskey/ale drinks glass. Acid etched with the inscription "Orford Arms - Norwich"
Important, because it came from the small basement club running under the Orford Arms in the centre of Norwich which was a famous venue.
The first person to use the cellar for music was entrepreneur and WW2 Bomber Pilot, Norman Guest, who started a Jazz/Skiffle club in 1957. The Ronnie Hanton Skiffle group with local singing sensation Mireille Gray performed on the opening night.
The Orford though didn’t come into its own until the early sixties when new licensee Douro Potter let local impresarios like Bram Lowe and Howard Platt start booking acts such as: The Graham Bond Organisation featuring Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker, Steam Packet featuring Rod Stewart, Cream, PP Arnold, David Bowie & the Buzz and possibly their most famous guest Jimi Hendrix.
Jimi Hendrix's played 1967. Who knows maybe he drank from this glass!
This glass is very usable and in lovely condition, a great addition to any home or gift for someone special.
Height; 4.75" (12cm)
